About My Dad and Me
My name is Amanda Weckerly and I am seventeen years old. I am a pretty active person - I love to swim, go on hikes, ride my bike, and I am a cheerleader. This summer I was planning on going to an Intro to Engineering camp at a college campus but due to COVID-19 it got cancelled. My dad and I decided that with the extra time it would be a fun project for us to make a solar paneled bike. I wanted to learn about solar power in a more hands-on way because I believe it will have tremendous applications in the future and in my life. I plan to improve on this project and maybe do some more similar ones like this in the future.

My dad's name is Paul Weckerly. He used to be a lawyer and now he works for a company that sells warranties to home-building companies. My dad rode from San Francisco to Ladera Ranch four years ago for his 50th birthday. He wanted to do the ride again but says he is not currently in the right shape to do it without assistance. By creating a solar-powered bicycle, my dad and I got to spend a lot of time together, learn something new and different together, and get some good exercise. My dad has two other kids - my eight-year old brothers Matthew and Daniel.
